Christmas 2007 – Tuesday

Whereas many festivals are on fixed days of the week, for example, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Thursday, Christmas can fall on any day of the week.

  • Christmas 2007 was on a Tuesday
  • Christmas 2008 was on a Thursday (Due to the Leap year)
  • Christmas 2009 will be on a Friday
  • Christmas 2010 will be on a Saturday
  • Christmas 2011 will be on a Sunday
  • Christmas 2012 will be on a Tuesday (Leap year)

Naturally, Christmas Day is followed by Boxing Day, but New Year’s Day is always the same day of the week as Christmas Day, but one week later.

  • Wednesday – OK.

Carol’s in a Stable at Christmas

Carol's in a stable at Christmas

A mother named Carol Christmas is planning her family festive celebrations in a stable. What happened was Carol was forced out of her home by the summer floods which swept across the UK in 2007. Mrs Christmas, said she has been preparing to take part in ‘her own nativity’ since her cottage in Bushley, near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, UK, was wrecked by the deluge in July. Her family have been staying in a neighbour’s stable conversion for the past five months while repair work is carried out on their home.

Examples of Red Tape Curtailing Christmas 2007

Shops in Clevedon, Bristol, UK, have abandoned their plans for lights because Somerset Council told them that lights can no longer be attached to lampposts. Bob Hughes, of local traders’ association, said: ‘We have also been told that we cannot attach lights or motifs to the lampposts along the street as we have done in previous years.’

The council Jobsworth says: ‘There is a code of practice which has to be followed regarding the installation of Christmas lights. The lighting columns are concrete and it is not possible to attach lights to them.’

In Sandwell, Worcestershire, shopkeepers were told that lights cannot be hung across the widths of roads, because of fears that cables may break.

Following Christmas 2007, the next Christmas Day on a Tuesday will be 2012.
