Germany 3 : 2 England.  A terrible game for England.
They were leading 2 nil and coasting, until Peter ‘the Cat’
Bonetti was a bit late in diving for a speculative shot.  The regular English goalie, Gordon Banks, would have collected the half-hearted shot
without even diving.  Unfortunately Banks was suffering food poisoning, some say he had eaten a dodgy hamburger, others insist it was a frankfurter.

Background

England gave Brazil a good game.
However, Brazil won every game, no draws, no replays no need for penalties.  After two quiet World Cups it was a privilege to see Pelé back to his best.
