I wrote this article to help other residents at Burrium Gate who may have
similar problems.
Symptoms
While the dishwasher door reached the vertical, the catch did not seem to
engage fully; worse still, it would not power on.
Guy’s Bodge: I pushed the door a little harder, and then
I wedged it closed with a piece of card in each side. I kept pushing
and praying in equal measure until I could hear the water start pumping into
the dishwasher.
Professional Fix by Neff / Bosch Engineer
The engineer did three thing to fix the dishwasher door problem permanently:
- Moved the whole dishwaser forward a maximum of 2 inches.
- Tightened the little bolts on the side.
- Flicked the catch at the top.
I mention this to help any proper DIY experts; I wanted to give hope that
it may be possible to fix similar problems one’s self given the above clues.
Tips from the Engineer
Use only ‘Finish’ tablets
‘But they don’t always
dissolve’ I said. ‘That’s because either you have it on the 45 degree
rinse, or you jam in plates so that the rotor cannot spin’, he replied.
Clean every 6 weeks
‘Tried that’ I said, ‘didn’t
seem to have much effect’ ‘Ah’, he replied, ‘that because it was new,
as it gets older you really must clean it stop the internal pipes furring
up. Also, make sure you set the temperature to 70 degrees when you put
in the cleaning liquid bottle.
Scrubbing brush light won’t go out, I mentioned.
‘That’s because
you have interrupted its cycle, the answer is to reset by holding down the
power button for 5 seconds’. (Button on the right as you look at the
dishwasher). If you do that that symbol with a backbone and 3 ‘legs’
goes out and behaves itself.
Neff Fridge Filter (Dishwasher Engineer Goes Extra Mile)
‘Have you ever changed the filter in your fridge’ the engineer asked?
‘Didn’t know there was one’, I said. He kindly removed the blue tape
up by the top light in the fridge (not the freezer). Next he took off
the plastic unit and unscrewed the cartridge. It required more torque
than John Motson’s tongue, but he got it off. The engineer also
persuaded me to order a replacement. I selected the super-duper
filter, the one that’s supposed to make the water from the drinks dispenser
taste sweeter.
I’ll get back to you if it really makes any difference to the drinks.
